Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis believes that his association with Bowling Coach Sajeewa Weerakoon made a huge impact in his performances during the second Test against Bangladesh.
“I really worked hard with Spin Bowling Coach Sajeewa Weerakoon even during the COVID-19 period and I made few changes to my bowling action,” Mendis said after his heroics at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.
“I use to have a chat with Sajeewa Weerakoon everyday and discussed on how I could correct my mistakes and to develop my bowling skills,” the 25-year-old said after claiming four wickets in the second innings.
“Weerakoon always gave me good tips to improve my skills and his advice was very helpful to me,” said the former Captain of the Sri Lanka Under-19 Team.
“I always tried to bowl a good line and length and during the net practice I really worked hard to spot the ball and the seniors always gave me good support to move forward.”
Mendis came into the limelight during the last Lanka Premier League (LPL) where he represented Dambulla Viiking and finally he was named in the Sri Lanka Test Squad and had the opportunity to play in the second Test against England at Galle.
“When I was playing for the Sri Lanka ‘A’ Team I had the chance to play against the Bangladesh ‘A’ Team and most of those players were in this Test Team and so, I had some idea how to bowl against them,” he added
