Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) will conduct stage one of the National Athletics Championship on Friday (21) at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The meet was earlier scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but now it has been brought forward due to travel restrictions.
The meet has become the most important competition of the year for athletes, as it gives a bonus placing score of 100 points for the first place, which becomes vital when calculating their world ranking positions.
Nilani Ratnayake (300m steeplechase), Sumedha Ranasinghe (javelin throw), Dilshi Kumarasinghe (800m) Nimali Liyanarachchi (800m) and Gayanthika Abeyratne (800m) are the key athletes at this meet.
The schedule: 7.15 a.m: Women’s 3000m steeplechase final, 7.45 a.m: 800m Women’s final, 8.00 a.m: 400m Men’s semi-finals, 8.00 a.m: javelin throw Women’s final, 8.15 a.m: 100m Women’s semi-finals, 8.30 a.m: 100m Men’s semi-finals, 9.00 a.m: long jump Men’s final, 10.00 a.m: 100m Women’s final, 10.00 a.m: javelin throw Men’s final, 10.15 a.m: 100m Men’s final, 10.15 a.m: 400m Women’s final, 10.30 a.m: 400m Men’s final.
