Royal set up Under-19 final clash with St. Joseph’s

Skipper Pavan Ratnayake’s magnificent century was in vain as Royal College recorded a six-wicket victory over Mahanama College in their Under-19 Division One Tier ‘A’ Cricket Tournament semi- final fixture played at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa yesterday.

Mahanama scored 209 for eight with Ratnayake scoring 114 from 150 balls with three fours and fours sixes.

Royal chasing their target lost two early wickets but wicket-keeper batsman Shehan Herath (62) and Sadisha Rajapaksa (85 not out) added 116 for the third wicket to steer them to victory with three overs to spare.

Meanwhile, openers Sadeesh Jayawardena (62) and Sheran Fonseka (93) struck half-centuries as St. Joseph’s College recorded an easy 10-wicket victory over Trinity College in the other semi-final match played at the Surrey Grounds in Moggona yesterday.

Earlier, the Trinitians were bowled out for 160 with Pawan Pathiraja scoring 61 while Mithira Thenura and Dunith Wellalage took three wickets each for St Joseph’s.

Trinity: 160 in 49.4 overs (Pawan Pathiraja 61, Akram Muthalib 49, Mithira Thenura 3/26, Senuka de Silva 2/30, Dunith Wellalage 3/32)

St. Joseph’s: 161/0 in 35.4 overs (Sadeesh Jayawardena 62 n.o, Sheran Fonseka 93 n.o).
