Sri Lanka Test and One Day International (ODI) Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne said that his players are in a good frame of mind to take on the West Indies when the two teams clash in an all format series commencing from March 4.

Karunaratne made these observations shortly before the 20-member Sri Lankan white-ball squad took wing to the Caribbean on Monday.

“We are determined to perform well during this tour and we are ready to take up the challenges from the opposition,” Karunaratne stressed.

“Actually we will be playing ODI’s after a break of one year. The last time also we played ODI’s against the West Indies at home. They are very good in these two formats and we would never underestimate them,” said Karunaratne.

“We have a very good plan to counter-attack them and to compete with them in all departments and our moral is very high,” added Karunaratne.

“Lahiru Kumara has tested positive for Covid-19, which rules him out of the tour but we can’t do anything for this matter and the tour goes ahead with the other players.”

“I think this time we are well prepared for this series and we hope to perform well and most importantly get back into the winning ways once again,” he emphasised.

“We couldn’t do well during the South Africa and England series and we want to bounce back with an improved performance,” he added.

Meanwhile, uncapped players Pathum Nissanka and Ashen Bandara will look to establish their position in the team with a solid performance.

“I was out of the game for nearly six months due to a back injury and finally, I am happy to make a comeback and make it to the National Squad for the first time,” said Nissanka.

“I scored heavily during the last domestic season and that has helped me to find a place in the team. This is like a dream come true for me and I am hoping to produce my best effort during this tour,” said the former schoolboy of Isipathana College.
