Sanudula Dahamdi wins Chess Grand Prix 2021

Sanudula Dahamdi of Musaeus College won the second Sri Lanka Women’s Chess Grand Prix 2021 convincingly at the Sri Lanka Chess Federation Headquarters in Colombo.

The-14-year old promising player led from the start and finished with nine points out of a possible 11 games.

She strongly came up with a win in the penultimate round, the crucial game against the Silver Medallist, Niklesha Tharusi.

Having a one point lead, she received a draw in the final-round with Esha Pallie to finish the event.

She had one loss to Sandeepani Tharushi, two draws with Dasuni Mendis and Esha Pallie and won all other eight games to clinch the title.

Sanudula won the Championship Trophy, Gold Medal and a cash award of Rs. 30,000.

Meanwhile, Niklesha Tharushi of Visakha Vidyalaya also had a good tournament and won the Silver Medal and a cash award of Rs. 20,000. (DR)
