Sandithi and Gehansa shine at SSC Open

The quarter-final line-up in the Girls’ Under-12 Open Singles was completed on the seventh day of the SSC Open Tennis Tournament, which continued at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place, yesterday.

The best effort came from Sandithi Usgodaarachchi of Musaeus College as she outplayed Venuli Jayasinghe in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the first quarter-final.Meanwhile, Gehansa Methnadi, another schoolgirl from Musaeus College also reached the semi-finals with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Akeesha Silva in her quarter-final fixture.

In addition, Movindi Fernando of Newstead Girls’ College, Negombo and Githmi Fernando of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo also made it to the semi-finals of the Girls’ Under-12 Tournament.

Results:

Girls’ Under-12 (quarter-finals): Sandithi Usgodaarachchi beat Venuli Jayasinghe 6-3, 6-2. Gehansa Methnadi beat Akeesha Silva 6-3, 7-5. Movindi Fernando beat Nimesha Shehara 6-2, 6-2. Githmi Fernando beat Nisali Dissanayake 6-2, 6-4.
