Ruvi powers into Girls’ U-14 final

Ruvi Lewkebandara defeated Melesha Randini to secure her place in the final of the Girls’ Under-14 Singles of the Colombo Open Tennis Tournament, which continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.

Lewkebandara lived up to expectations as the favourite while recording a convincing 6-2, 6-4 straight set win in the first semi-final encounter.

The results:

Boys’ Under-14 Singles (semi-finals): Sandaru Guruge beat Ganuka Fernando 6-1, 6-4. Lisal Goonathilake beat Methwan Wijemanne 7-6, 7-5.

Boys’ Under-12 Singles (quartet-finals): Lithum Jayabandu beat Abdul Cader 6-2, 6-3. Gehash Tissera beat Aahil Kaleel 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-5. M. Wickramasinghe beat Jayin De Saram 7-5, 6-4.

Girls’ Under-14 Singles (semi-final): Ruvi Lewkebandara beat Melesha Randini 6-2, 6-4.

Boys’ Under-18 (third-round): Kavisha Rathnayake beat Hasal Ahangama 4-6, 7-5, 10- 5. Chathurya Nilaweera beat A. Abeywickrama 6-0, 6-1. Thehan Wijemanne beat Vichinthya Nilaweera 6-0, 6-5. Zaidh Zihar beat Janith Munasinghe 6-0, 6-0. (A.N)
