Rajans field a well balanced side this season

Cricket is one of the most popular sports at Dharmaraja College Kandy. This time they are sure to come out with a strong team under experienced coach Ananda Wijesekera, who played for the Rajans from 1967 to 1971 and led the side in his last year. He is one of the finest cricketers to come out of this school. Ananda has been involved with Dharmaraja College as a junior and senior coach for the last 26 years.

Dharmaraja College is one of the oldest cricket playing schools in the country with tremendous potential This time they are blessed with an abundance of cricket talent. These lads possess all the ingredients required for an enterprising team. This season they have a well balanced side, and are blessed with five of last year players. They not only possess a formidable batting line-up but also a penetrative bowling attack and are determined to pose a challenge to all schools. They also have to maintain their reputation in cricket and continue it for another season. They are well backed by the Old Boys Cricket Wing, and the cricketers are provided with almost all the facilities. Their first game of this season will be against Nalanda College in mid March and their friendly two-day match with Trinity College ended in a draw at Asgiriya.

This school has a history of more than 130 years. some of the Dharmaraja College top cricketers were P.L. Arthur “Kopi” Alwis, a fine batsman and the first centurion in the big match series in 1943, T.B. Talwatte, the second centurion in the same year , G.B. Their principal Dhampiya Wanasinghe is giving his fullest support.

They have some outstanding last year players in the side with top batsmen, bowlers and fielders and this year’s squad will include the best players from this pool.
