Kimuthu Sanithma de Silva, a Grade Eleven student of Mahamaya Girls’School Kandy is an outstanding swimmer who was at St.Anthony’s Girls’ School Katugastota upto Grade.2 and then was admitted to Mahamaya due to her talent in swimming.
She had a great interest in swimming when she was five years old when she accompanied her sister and saw her practicing swimming and she started swimming at the tender age of five years. Kimuthu participated at the two Mile Sea swim at Mount.Lavinia from age of 16 years. She secured the second place in the 50 Metre Backstroke in the Under14 All island Schools Sports festival in the year 2017. In the same year at the Junior National Aquatic Championship she secured the second place in the 200 Metre, third in 800 Metres and again third in 1500 metres at the Freestyle events and again finished third in the National Age Group Championship in the 1500 Metre Freestyle event.
Kimuthu participated at the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay at the National Short Course Championship and her team secured the third place and at the 2 x 100 Metre Freestyle event they became second. At the Sri lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Championship she came second in 200 Metre and third in 400 Metre free style events in the Under 14 age group.In the following year she secured the second place in 200 Metre Backstroke and 100 Metre Backstroke in the Under 15 age group and she secured the third place in the 800 Metre Freestyle event at the National Short Course Championship.
In the year 2019 she participated at the Sri Lanka Schools Championship in the under 17 age group and secured the first place in both 100 Metre and 200 Metre backstroke events and was placed third in the 50 Metre Backstroke event at the All Island Swimming Meet. She secured the second place in the 100 Metre and 200 Metre Freestyle and 100 Metre Backstroke events. At the XLV National Sports Festival she became third in the 200 Metre Backstroke. . In the year 2018 and 2019 she was awarded the Zonal colours at the Zonal Colours award Ceremony held in Kandy and she was also awarded Central Province colours and school colours .
In every Sea swim meet she has received Merit Certificates.Kimuthu is thankful to her Swimming Coach U.H. Sugath and the former Principal of Mahamaya Indra Withanachchi for the guidance given to her. Her ambition is to join the Kotalawala Defence Academy after her G.C.E.(A/L ) Examination.
