Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa stressing a point to the media

The ‘Football Friday’ programme a new concept initiated by the Ministry of Sports, will be held tomorrow (19) from 6.00 p.m. until midnight at the Racecourse Grounds in Reid Avenue.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ceylon Professional Sport Management (CPSM) and the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will jointly organise this programme with the aim of popularising the sport.

‘Football Friday’ is for the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a relaxed mindset and to have a joyful family evening on a Friday night while adhering to stipulated health guidelines,” Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa told reporters during a media conference held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium yesterday.

“The objective is to create a safe and controlled environment for the general public to engage in sports despite the existing pandemic.”

“Football Friday aims to promote the sport on a weekly concept and this event is aimed for the whole family while it will primarily revolve around football.”

“The format for the sport will be a knock-out championship which will have guest appearances and participation from various popular sporting personalities.”

“The game will be played in a social, non-contactable, as mini football of six-a-side in a mini football field,” added Minister Rajapaksa. (A.N)
