EFL extends support to sportsmen in the country

Sammy Akbar and Saif Yousuf

Spearheaded by one of its Directors Sammy Akbar, EFL a Global Logistics Conglomerate is playing a pivotal role in supporting local sports in the country, especially Rugby and Football, over a period of time.

With the country going through tough times since last March, and in lockdown sometimes, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, EFL never relaxed and they took care of their staff while extending their support to the sportsmen in the country.

EFL Managing Director Saif Yousuf has been the live wire behind their success story and they are the proud owners of the Colombo Football Club (CFC), his brainchild.

While exploring new avenues and overcoming many challenges in their industry, he took care of the livelihood of the footballers, paying their salaries while fulfilling the player’s day-to-day requirements and making them feel happy. Further Colombo FC emerged as the winners of the 2020 President’s Cup.

EFL took a big stride forward by signing a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR), stepping on board as the official Sri Lanka Women’s and Men’s Under-23 Inter-Club Rugby Tournament sponsors for the year 2021, along with assisting in developing and spreading the game in the country.

Former Thomian

Sammy Akbar, a dynamic figure both in his industry as well in the sporting circles, is a former Thomian ruggerite and Sri Lanka youth international who later donned the club jerseys of both CH and FC and Havelock SC.

With the assistance of EFL he supported his former club CH and his present second home Havelock SC.

His indefatigable efforts at the Park Club enabled them to refurbish the club house to give it a new look while opening up enclosures under the names ‘line-out’ and ‘EFL Veranda’.

They further strengthened their bond as one of the main sponsors of the Park Club looking after the welfare of the existing players while shouldering the needs of the other 30 players contracted with them.

EFL is currently a leading blue-chip company listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange and is represented in 24 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, USA and North America.

As a responsible corporate citizen EFL played a key role in the development of youth in the country with the intention of forming a disciplined society.

With their contribution they have built a reputation as a household name in Sri Lanka in the sporting arena in their 38-years of existence.

Apart from Rugby and Football they have supported volleyball and several other sport disciplines while also once bringing the rugby referees under their wing by being their sponsor.
