All favourites cruise into quarters

Varangana Jayawardena, Komathu Kumarapperuma, Dinadi Malliyawadu and Hiruni Dias recorded easy victories to enter the Girls’ Under-15 pre quarter-finals in the 68th National Badminton Championships which commenced at the SLBA Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Over 800 shuttlers are taking part in this five-day event conducted according to health guidelines imposed by the Ministry of Health.

Girls’ Under-15 Singles (second-round): Thinudi Fernando beat Senushi Pabasara 21-10, 21-14. Varangana Jayawardena beat Dilmi Amasha 21-7, 21-11. Komathu Kumarapperuma beat D. P. D. Sanjani 21-4, 21-6. Dinadi Malliyawadu beat Lathiduni Hettiarachchi 21-17, 21-6. Hiruni Dias beat Maria Peiris 21-10, 21-7. Neily Tennakoon beat Christine Anjali 21-10, 21-9. (D.R)
