Taaj Mihinath, a promising spiker from Dhammissara NS

W. Taaj Mihinath

The up and coming volleyball player and athlete ten-year-old Wahalamuni Taaj Mihinath brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater, Dhammissara National School Nattandiya.

Being a loyal old boy and an active member of the School Past Pupils Association of Dhammissara his father Tharaka Mihinath of Sri Lanka Army never hesitated to admit his son to his beloved school Dhammissara with the blessings of his wife Shalini Roshanthika in 2016 when Sumathipala de Silva was at the helm of the school.

In 2018 in the under nine age group he participated in the 75 metres long jump and high jump and in the following years too he swept the board and he was the Champion Athlete for three successive years and in 2020 he was awarded the prizes for the Best Athlete and Best Sportsman and his first class teacher was Mrs. Piyumali. In the meantime he commenced volleyball at the age of 10 playing in the under eleven team under coach Haritha and Keerthi Jayasekera. Taaj represented the school team at the Divisional and District level and won the first place. In the Provincial Meet they became runner up. In the same year participating in the under eleven All Island DSI Tournament they emerged runners up and Taaj was awarded School Volleyball Colours at the 2019 Colours Awards Ceremony. He passed the 2020 Grade Five Scholarship Examination with 177 marks and will be drafted to the senior school of Dhammissara this year. He was the Head Prefect of the junior school. He hopes to continue his sporting career while striking a balance with his studies. Taaj is well supported by the sports loving Principal Anil Pushpakumara and Mrs. Nilmini Rodrigo.
