SL soccer pool second-phase training begins

The second-phase of the National football team’s training camp commenced yesterday, in preparation of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup (Qatar 2022) and AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers (China 2023).

The Preliminary Joint Qualification Round-2 matches begin from March this year.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of the residential training, Sri Lanka Football (SLF) hosted this residential camp at their National Training Centre, Beddagana.

Head Coach Amir Alagic commenced the second-phase training yesterday after all 23 players, coaches and the training staff underwent the PCR tests. The results of the tests will be available today. This camp will run up to February 7, after which the players will be dispersed to their respective clubs in preparation for the pre-league scheduled to commence from February 17 before the launch of the Super League in April.

Meanwhile, there will be one change to the training squad as M. A. M. Hasmeer of Sea Hawks FC will replace Waseem Razeek, who was kept away from this camp due to some personal reasons for which the governing body has granted permission.

The head coach intends to continue the fitness building sessions further along with tactical play sessions which will be the second priority during this camp.

C. M. Rahman (Red Star SC), U. S. T. Danushka (New Youngs FC), Zarwan Johar (Colombo FC), Kavindu Ishan (Up-Country Lions SC), S. D. Wijesinghe (Red Star SC), Asela Madushan (Sea Hawks FC), Rifkhan Mohamed (Police SC), M. A. M. Hasmeer (Sea Hawks FC) and Harsha Fernando (Blue Eagle SC).
