Western Warriors and Southern Stars in full control on day one

Western Warriors and Southern Stars got off to a flying start on the first day of the Li Ning - Lanka Shuttle Challenge which began on Wednesday at SLB Courts and MBA Courts respectively. Western Warriors led by kavindi Sirimannege had five victories over Island Titans Led by Dinuka Karunaratne.

Southern Stars skippered by Sachin Dias was the most outstanding team in the tournament winning six matches out of seven matches in round one against Northern knights. They maintained this morale in second round too outplaying Central Crusaders five matches to two.

Meanwhile Western Warriors in the first round lost to Central Crusaders led by Buvenaka Gunetilleke 3-4 but came back strongly in round two to register a good win against Island Titans to keep hopes of reaching the last stage. Meanwhile Southern Stars too had the same fate in round one.

The other teams that performed well to record wins on day one were Eastern Eagles against Island Titans, Northern Knights against Eastern Eagles. Eagles are led by Dilmi Dias while Island Titans are skippered by Dinuka Karunararne.

With two more days left for play many changes are expected as all teams are gearing up to bring their best towards the sport which has brought them to play under many difficulties due to the Covid Pandemic-19.

The organizers took great pains in conducting this Li Ning Lanka Shuttle Challenge 2020 with the co-operation of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and health Authorities. All Players were thankful to all who made these preparations to conduct a tournament of this nature.
