Southern Stars led by Sachin Dias took a firm lead in the ongoing Li Ning Shuttle Challenge League Tournament 2020, yesterday, with a clean sweep registering five victories to gain the maximum points. They are followed by Western Warriors who, were able to achieve only four wins from five outings. Western Warriors are led by Kavidi Sirimanne.
Meanwhile, Central Crusaders have done their best to win three outings, losing two. They are capable of making a strong comeback during the coming two days. Eastern Eagles is the only team that failed to live up to expectations, losing all their fixtures up to yesterday.
The first-ever Shuttle Challenge will be an interesting one as these two teams are battling with high hopes of annexing the title, with a lot of cash awards on offer.
Southern Stars skipper Sachin Dias and Chamath Dias won their Men's Doubles match after a strong fight against Viren Neththasinghe and Rasindu Hendahewa in a three-setter. Meanwhile, Skipper of Eastern Eagles Dilmi Dias went down to Hasini Ambalangoda of Southern Star in straight sets.
The other interesting match was between Western Warriors Sachen Fernando and Ashinsa Herath of Northern knights, which also ended in a three-setter in favor of Sachen in the Under 17 Boys encounter.
All high-ranked Shuttlers maintained their superiority up to yesterday.
