Seventeen year old Sineth the leading wicket taker of 2019 -20 season

Sineth Sithara Dissanayake the 17 year old left arm leg spinner of St. Thomas College Matara was the leading wicket taker with 95 wickets in the 2019/2020 season of the Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Sineth Sithara Dissanayake started his school cricket career at under 13 level under coach Chaminda Waidyarathne in 2014. He represented the school under 13 team in three seasons 2014, 2015 and 2016. He scored 220 runs with a half century and claimed 24 wickets in 2015. He scored 250 runs with two half centuries and took 28 wickets in 2016. He scored more than 600 runs with three half centuries and claimed over 60 wickets with 5 five wicket hauls in three seasons in the under 13 level.

Sineth represented the college under 15 team in two seasons 2017 and 2018. He scored more than 150 runs as a left hand batsman and claimed 15 wickets in 2017. He represented the Matara district under 15 team in the Prima Champions Trophy inter district Cricket tournament in 2017. He scored 280 runs with two half centuries and captured 25 wickets as skipper in 2018. He scored over 400 runs with two half centuries and claimed more than 40 wickets with 2 five wicket hauls in two seasons at under 15 level. Sineth played for the school under 13 and 15 teams in 2015,2016,2017 and 2018 under Dumindu Hewapathirana junior coach of St. Thomas College Matara.

He represented the college under 19 team as a fresher and claimed 66 wickets with 5 five wicket hauls in the season of 2017/18. He claimed 64 wickets with 4 five wicket hauls in 2018/2019 season. He played for the under 19 team in first two seasons under Charth Palliyage senior head coach of the college.

He claimed 30 wickets with 3 five wicket hauls in under 17 season of 2019. Sineth Dissanayake claimed 95 wickets for 948 runs with 8 five wicket hauls and 3 ten wicket hauls in the under 19 schools Cricket season 2019/2020 under the coach Indika Jayasekara. His best performance in an inning is 8 wickets for 19 runs against St. Mary’s College Kegalle and best bowling performance is a match bag of 11 wickets for 31 runs against St. Mary’s Kegalle. He missed the quarter final match and annual big match due to Covid -19 pandemic situation.

He has claimed 5 wicket hauls against Devapathiraja Ratgama (7/18), Trinity Kandy (5/53), Vidyartha Kandy (6/36), Lumbini Colombo (5/73), Thurstan Colombo (5/61), Zahira Colombo (5/42), Richmond Galle (5/25) and St. Mary’s Kegalle (8/19). He also claimed 10 wicket hauls against Devapathiraja Ratgama (11/ 71), Vidyartha Kandy (10/67) and St. Mary’s Kegalle 11/31.

St. Thomas College Matara qualified to the quarter final of the Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament. (Due to the prevailing health concerns (Covid-19), the SLSCA decided to postpone the ongoing Under 19 tournament matches until further notice. (From March 15)

Sineth was admitted to St. Thomas College Matara in 2009 for grade One. He passed the O/L exam with 3 A’s and 6 B’s. and will sit the GCE A/L exam in the Commerce stream in 2022.
