Nethmini a promising women’s cricketer

B.M.Nethmini Kaveesha Basnayake is an outstanding cricketer of St.Anthony’s Girls School,Katugastota and she started her cricket career at the age of 12 years under Susantha Basnayake, a Level 2 Cricket Coach and Wasanthi Jinadasa, the teacher-in-charge of the school. She started cricket at a very young age and the school team won the soft ball Cricket tournament held at the Rahula Grounds, Katugastota in 2015.

After her performance in this match, she was selected to the hard ball cricket team of the school in the same year at the all Island Division II cricket tournament and received an Award for the youngest up and coming player when she claimed 4 wickets for 35 runs against Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Okkampitiya.

In the next cricket tournament she scored a match winning innings of 46 runs against the same school and in the year 2018 to 2019 soft ball Cricket Tournament she came up with an all round performance to score 25 runs and claimed 3 wickets for 35 runs against Galewela Central School. In the same year in the Hard ball tournament she claimed 3 wickets for 35 runs and scored 32 runs against Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda She was selected to the Kandy district Women’s Cricket team in 2019 and claimed 5 wickets for 20 runs against Nuwara Eliya District team and she was among the eight players of the Most popular Girls Cricketers Contest in 2019.

Nethimini is also a bright student and obtained 9 A’s at the GCE(OL) Examination and she is intending to do higher studies as well as continue playing cricket in the future.
