Gladiators skipper Afridi returns home

Galle Gladiators skipper and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi left for Pakistan last night. As per reliable sources he has left due to urgent family commitments.

His absence will be a major blow for the team who are reeling at the bottom of the LPL points table with three losses in their three outings so far. They are playing another match today and Bhanuka Rajapaksa is likely to lead them for the rest of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Dambulla Viiking and Afghanistan fast bowler Aftab Alam would also not play any further part in the Lanka Premier League. Due to personal reasons he has been forced to return to Afghanistan immediately. Alam’s only appearance for his team came in the second match of the tournament against Jaffna Stallions. He impressed with his death bowling returning figures of 1/22 in 3 overs.

Dambulla Viiking have won two out of the three matches they have played so far, against Kandy Tuskers and Colombo Kings respectively. (AN)
