Dhananjaya Lakshan played key role in steering Galle Gladiators to the final of LPL

Richmondite Dhananjaya Lakshan, 22 year old uncapped player of Galle Gladiators was adjudged emerging player of the Lanka Premier League T20 tournament at MRICS Hambantota on Wednesday. . Left hand batsman and right arm medium paceman Dhananjaya Lakshan gave excellent all round performances in the tournament.

Sri Lanka youth cap Dhananjaya Lakshan captured 13 wickets for 225 runs in seven innings including the final. He scored 77 runs in 5 innings. He maintained 38.50 average and 129.22 strike rate. He scored unbeaten in valuable 31 runs in 23 balls with two boundaries and a six in the semi final against Colombo Kings.to guide his team Galle Gladiators to the semi final.

He debut in the LPL was against Colombo Kings . He couldn’t bowl and bat in this match due to restricted five overs per innings. He dismissed Avishka Fernando, Dasun Shanaka, Samith Patel, Laurie Evans, Niroshan Dikwella, Dasun Shanaka, Seekkuge Prasanna, Irfan Pathan, Dinesh Chandimal, Thikshila De Silva, Johnson Charles, Shoaib Malik and Dhananjaya De Silva in the LPL. His best bowling performance was 3 wickets for 36 runs in the final against Jaffna Stallions.

Dhananjaya Lakshan was born on 5th October in 1998. He was admitted to Richmond College Galle in 2004. He started under Dhanushka Denagama at his private Cricket academy Galle in 2009. Dhananjaya joined school cricket practices at Richmond College Galle under Dhanushka Denagama, junior head coach of the college in the same year. He played three seasons of under 13 cricket from 2009 to 2011. He represented the college under 13 ‘B’ team as a fresher and scored over 200 runs and claimed 15 wickets in 2009. He was promoted to the college under 13 ‘A’ team in 2010. He was the member of the runner up team of the all island under 13 division One schools tournament in the same year. He scored over 250 runs with two half centuries and claimed over 20 wickets in that season. He was the deputy skipper of the college under 13 ‘A’ team, champion of the division One all island inter schools tournament in 2011. He scored over 350 runs with three fifties in that season.

He represented the college under 15 team and scored more than 300 runs with two fifties in 2012. and represented the college under 15 team and scored over 350 runs with three fifties in 2013. He represented the Galle district team and Southern province team in the Prima trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2013.

He represented the champion Richmond college under 17 team under Dhammika Sudarshana senior head coach: He scored over 400 runs with two half centuries in 2014. He represented the college under 17 team and scored more than 350 runs with three half centuries in 2015.

He represented the college first XI team in season 2014/15 as a fresher. He scored more than 1600 runs with a century and 11 half centuries in 48 under 19 school matches in four school seasons. His best batting performance was 154 runs against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala. He claimed 75 wickets in the school cricket seasons. He scored more than 400 runs in 14 schools limited overs matches with a century and two half centuries in four seasons. He made a valuable century as the skipper in the under 19 limited overs cricket semi final match against S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia in 2017/18.

He represented Southern province under 19 team in the under 19 provincial two day tournament conducted by SLC in 2016. He led the champion Southern Province under 19 team in the under 19 provincial limited overs tournament conducted by SLC in 2017.

He led the champion Richmond college team in the Under 19 divison One Limited over tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in 2018. He played four big matches and he led the Richmond college team in the Lovers’ quarrel annual big match in 2018. He also made a century in the big match in 2017.

He was selected to the Sri Lanka under 19’s squad. He first represented the Sri Lanka under 19 team for Asia Cup in 2017. He played Youth Asia Cup in Malaysia, India tour and Youth World Cup in New Zealand in 2018. He scored 294 runs with a century but claimed only three wickets in nine matches in the Under 19 Youth ODI’s. He scored unbeaten 101 runs against Ireland under 19’s in the Youth World Cup in 2018. He was involved in a Sri Lanka under 19 partnership record with his school mate Kamindu Mendis (162) against Ireland under 19’s in the Youth World Cup 2018.

He represented the MAS Silueta and SLC Emerging XI in the Limited Overs and T20 Mercantile Cricket tournaments. He started inter club Cricket for Singha SC Ambalangoda in 2015 at 17 years. He played for Galle CC and Colts CC in the Premier Club tournament and under 23 tournaments. He represented Foundation of Goodness team in the Red Bull Inter University tournament in 2018.
