Sixteen year old left arm leg-spinner and first year player Manuja Dulneth of Rahula College Matara passed the 100 wicket milestone in the 2019-20 season of the Under 19 Division Two inter School Cricket (Two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
He commenced his school cricket career as an opening left arm medium fast bowler at Rahula College Matara in under 13 (team ‘B’) age limit under the college junior coach Sisira Weerasinghe in 2015. He represented the school under 13 ‘A’ team and claimed 23 wickets in 2016. He led the college under 13 ‘A’ team in 2017.
Manuja Dulneth changed bowling action as left arm leg-spinner from left arm medium fast bowler under Sisira Weerasinghe in the under 15 tournament in 2018. He led the school under 15 team under coach Rohan Ariyathilake in 2019.
He took 20 wickets that season. He was vice captain of the under 15 Matara district team in the Prima champions Cup inter district tournament in 2019. He was selected to the Under 15 national development squad conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
He represented the college first XI team as a fresher last season. He steered them to the quarter final round of the under 19 division two inter school cricket tournament in 2019/2020. He claimed 107 wickets for 977 runs in 13 matches this season with 15 five wicket hauls and six 10 wicket hauls as match bags. His best bowling performance in an inning is 8 wickets for 9 runs against Sri Jayawardhanapura MV Kotte. His best bowling performance in a game is a match bag of 14 wickets for 86 runs against Henegama MMV.
He claimed five wicket hauls against Piliyandala Central, Henegama Central, Devapathiraja Ratgama, Asoka Colombo, St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya, Christ King Ja Ela, Sri Jayawardhanapura MV Kotte, St. John’s Panadura, Dharmaraja Kandy and Sri Devananda Ambalangoda.
Rahula College Matara entered the quarter final in the Two day tournament this season 2019/20. (Due to the prevailing health concerns (Covid-19), the SLSCA decided to postpone the ongoing Under 19 tournament matches until further notice. (From March 15)
