Colombo Kings' opening batsman, Andre Russell joined an exclusive select band of players, as he equalled the world record for the third-fastesthalf century in a T20 game during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) match on Saturday.
The 32-year-old dynamic West Indies all-rounder raced to his half century from just 14 deliveries and helped the Kings register a convincing 34-run win over Galle Gladiators in their rain-hit match at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota.
Russell became the ninth player to complete a T20 half century from 14 balls and joined a unique set of players, which includes batsmen in the calibre of K. L. Rahul (Kings XI Punjab), Colin Munro (New Zealand), and his compatriot Kieron Pollard.
Yuvraj Singh (India vs England), Chris Gayle (Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikes) and HasratullahZazai (Kabul Zwanan vs Balkh Legends) jointly hold the world record for the fastest half century in 12 deliveries.
This was Russell’s fastest half century in T20 cricket as he beat his 19-ball 50 for the Kings XI Punjab, against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League at Kolkata in 2015.
