Rashan Kavishka Fernando to lead Moratu Vidyalaya next year

Sixth year player, all rounder, right hand middle order bat, left arm leg spinner, safe fielder  in any position  Rashan Kavishka Fernando  has been appointed as the Captain of Moratu Vidyalaya for the 2020/21 first eleven cricket season by the Principal Hemasiri Athaudage and his deputy skipper will be Niraj Kavishka.

Vidyalian Past Cricketers are searching for a cricket loving Principal for their Alma Mater. Moratu Vidyalaya is a Mixed School and they are the only school in Sri Lanka to produce  Male and Female test cricketers Ajantha Mendis and Inoshi Fernando respectively.  

Rashan joined his present school for the Grade One in the year 2007 and in 2010 he joined the Moralians Cricket Academy and came under the present coach Prasanna Dissanayake and he was selected to the under 13 division one team in 2013 and played in a single game and in his second year he scored 280 runs and bagged 22 wickets and in his next year too he claimed 22 scalps and scored 280 runs.

In his first year in the under 15 he came under Naminda Dissanayake for a short stint and Prasanna Disanayake took over again and in his first year he passed the 200 run mark and took 13 wickets and in his second year he was the Vice Captain of the team and scored 315 runs with  one fifty and captured 17 wickets. In his first year in the under 15 he got 180 runs and took 15 wickets and in his second year he scored 330 runs and captured 14  wickets.  

His first year in the first eleven 2015/16 cricket season and as the “Baby of the Team” he played as a bowler and took nine wickets and in his second year he captured 40 wickets and scored 351 runs. In the following year he scored 320 runs and claimed 38 wickets and in the last season he was the Vice Captain of the team and scored 285 runs and bagged 52 wickets. During this period he played in four Big Matches and four One Dayers against their arch rivals Sri Sumangala College, Panadura.  

In addition he represented Old Moratu Vidyalian’s Sports Club in the Daily News and Donovan Andree Tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket and  this year he played for Panadura Sports Club in the under 23 tournament.  

He is a fine athlete and in his first year in the under 14 age group he took part in the Inter House Sports Meet and did Hurdles and Long Jump and in the Junior Level he did 100, 400 and Long Jump and in the under 18 age category he won the 800, 1500 and the 5000 metre races and last year  in the under 20 age group he won the same events and became the schools Senior Athletic Champion. He represented his school in the Divisional and Zonal Meets.
