Fourth year player, coloursman, right hand opening bat, wicket keeper and occasional right arm off spinner Unga Kamanthige Ashen Chanula Akalanka has been appointed as the first eleven cricket captain of Tissa Central College, Kalutara for the 2020/21 cricket season and his deputy will be Randula Kasun.
He commenced his schooling at Tissa Central and entered school in 2008 and at the age of ten years he was admitted to the School Cricket Academy and came under Sunil Silva and in his first year itself in the under 13 division two he scored 435 runs with three fifties and had 30 victims behind the stumps and playing in his second year in the same division he scored 480 runs with three fifties and took 20 victims and in his third year he passed the 250 run mark in division one and claimed 40 victims behind the stumps.
In his first year in under 15 in division one Ashen scored 350 runs with two fifties and took 20 victims as the glove man and in his second year he passed the 450 run mark with 116 against Lumbini Vidyalaya, Colombo and scored one fifty and took 30 victims behind the stumps and also played for the Prima Cup for Kalutara District.
Ashen played in the under 17 in the following year and scored 205 runs and took 20 victims and in the following year Captaining the team he scored 401 runs with a half century and claimed 28 victims behind the stumps.
His first year in the under 19 was in 2017/18 season and he was in the reserve list and in the following year he played for the team and passed the 300 run mark with three fifties and claimed 35 victims behind the stumps. Last season he scored 512 runs with three fifties and top score being against Dharmaloka Vidyalaya, Kelaniya with 75 runs and took 32 victims.
He played for the Big Match and the Limited Over Game last year He played for the District Team and for the Inter School Limited Over match versus Holy Cross College, Kalutara conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
He has a strong outfit next year with nine last year players in the team.
