Sebastianite Thihaisha Mendis cricketing star in the making

The under 15 division one cricket captain, left hand number 4 batsman, right arm leg spinner and safe fielder at any position Fleveen Randush Thihaisha Mendis has excelled for his Alma Mater St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in the under 13 and 15 cricket tournaments.

Thihaisha commenced his schooling at St. Sebastian’s College when Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle was at the helm of the school.Since his smaller days his forte is cricket and initially he attended practices under DilrukMendis and after that he joined his School Cricket Academy and came under Samith Fernando.

In his first year in 2015 itself in the under 13 division three all island tournament he was the captain of the team and he could not come up to expectations.

But in his second year in division two as captain he scored 211 runs with a fifty at an average of 42.5 and bagged 9 scalps which included 6 for 11 runs against Isipathana Vidyalaya.

In the following year captaining division one Sebs came up to Semi Finals and lost to Mahinda College, Galle and he scored 221 runs with two fifties and claimed 10 wickets under Kanishka Perera.

Also he played in the under 13 Mercantile Cricket Association Cricket Tournament under Kushan Jayawickrama. Representing under 13 and 15 tournaments he has scored 1074 runs in 49 matches at an average of 33.7.

During his five year period he has represented his Alma Mater in 141 matches and captained the teams in 114 matches including 48 tournament and 65 friendly matches and has claimed 30 wickets in tournament matches.

Then he was promoted to the under 15 team in 2018 and Sebs were the All Island Division two Champions and he captained the team and he scored 341 runs with a half century and captured 16 wickets and in the last year as captain he scored 220 runs with a fifty and in division one Sebs reached the Semi Finals under Imal Boteju at an average of 44.0.

This year he could not play in the under 17 tournament due to the prevailing situation in the country and last year he played for the second eleven team in five matches.

During this period the Former Rectors, Reverend Fathers Ranjith Andradi and Anton Ranjith alsong with Master in Charge of cricket evergreen Frank Cooray helped him to come up the ladder in numerous ways.
