Madushani outstanding women’s cricketer and volleyball player

The Combined Provincial Ladies Team emerged as the All Island Six-A-Side Runners Up in the 43rd National Youth Festival All Island Cricket Tournament and they posed for a picture just after the finals at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala. The right hand middle order batswoman, left arm spinner and Volleyball player, member of the District Team Kalutara and member of the A. N. A. Cricket Academy and Bandaragama District Player Meepage Nimasha Madushani has brought honour to her Alma Mater Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Wadduwa.

Her first school was Sri Sumangala Primary School, Kalutara and from there she shifted to Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya for the Grade 6 and she had her entire education at Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya. From her younger days her interest was cricket. But there was no cricket at her school and they had only Volleyball.

She represented the volleyball teams of her school in the under 12, 14, 16 and 19 age groups and also she captained all these age groups in the school Inter House Competitions. from time to time her school became champions in Divisional, Zonal and District Levels. Whilst at school their Teacher In Charge of Volleyball was Mrs. Amasha.

In the mean time she met the girls cricket coach of Tissa Central, Kalutara Nirosha Sanjeewani and she requested her to take upto cricket and she joined Palink Sports Club and they lost to Army and Air Force in the finals in two successive years in hard ball cricket tournaments organized by Sri Lanka Womens Cricket Associatin and later she joined Ladies Cricket Club and her coach was Palitha Gunasekera.

During this period she was selected for the Combined Provincial Team and took part in the 43rd National Youth Six-A-Side Ladies Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Association and their team carried away the Runners Up Trophy.

From there she joined the A. N. A. Cricket Academy and was coached by Nirosha Sanjeewani and there along with other male and female players she got all the facilities from its President and owner Sandun Buddhika.

She played in the District and Provincial Teams and her coaches were Carman Mapatuna Ajith and Jeewantha and with these performances she was selected for the 15 member development squad under Mr. Rohitha and unfortunately due to Covid 19 the practices came to a halt but her sole intention is to represent her country.
