Karateka Denetha Avihinsa does Prince of Wales proud

Sri Lanka National Champion, Schools Senior and Junior Champion and Asia and South Asia participant in Karate Galuge Denetha Avihinsa Fernando of Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater.

Denetha was admitted to the school in 2009 and at the age of six years he commenced participating in Karate under the Teacher In Charge of Karate at school Mrs. Kumuduni and in the All Island Schools Junior National Karate Championship in 2011 conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Karate Do Association and competing in the under 8 age group he won the third place in 10, 9, 8, K. KYU KATA and in the District Championship in 2012 in the under 9 boys KATA he won the KYU 7, 8, 9, 10, First Place.

In his third attempt in the same tournament in the under 12 age group he was awarded the KATA 6, 5, 4, KYU with Excellent Performances Certificate and again in the under 13 category too he got the Excellent Performances Certificate. In 2017 in the Cadet Junior Colombo District Western Province and National Karate Championship he won the first place in the under 14 and 15 years Black Belt 57kgs. Then in the under 21 National Karate Championships in 2018 he got the Black Belt 63 kgs under 14 and 15 years Kumito First Places.

Participating at Club Level in the International Sri Lanka Open Karate Championship 2014 under 11 years 6, 8, 4 KYU Boys KATA he won the first place. Then in the Japan Do Goju Eyu Yuz Enkai Sri Lanka first National Open Karate Tournament 2014 under 10 – 11 years 6, 5, 4 Kyu Boys Kata he won the second place and in the Boys same age and category he became first in Kumite. In the Karate Championship organized by Prince of Wales’ College in 2011 and in the under 9 Kumite he became first.

He became first in the Third KENWAKAI International Karate Championship 2015 under 13 Kumnite and he won the first place in the Federation Okinawa Karate RYU Shorinken South Asia (FOKSSA). In the SFK Open Karate Championship 2015 in 12 and 13 years age group 6, 5, 4 Kyu Kata he won the first place and in the Gaman Hotokan Open Karate Championship 2015 in the under 12-13 age group 6, 5, 4 Kyu Kata he won the third place.

He represented Sri Lanka in 17 AKF Cadet Junior and under 21 Karate Championship 2018 in Okinawa Japan in the under 14 and 15 Black Belt 57kgs. In 18th AKF Cadet Junior and in the under 21 Karate Championship 2019 held in Kotakinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. He took part in the 16, 17 age group Black Belt 68kgs.

Finally he represented the country in the Fifth South Asian Karate Championship 2019 Cadet Junior under 21 and Senior event in Dhaka, Bangaladesh and in the Junior Male Individual Komite 68 kilos and won a Silver Medal. The support and the help given by the Principal Kusala J. Fernando, the Prefect of Games Vajira Abeywickrama and Master in Charge of Karate to Deneth are praiseworthy
