The Sports Ministry is expected to give a two-year Sports diploma to the Physical Education coaches who are attached to the Education Ministry. This is a new concept introduced by Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.
The Minister already gave instructions to the Secretary of the Sports Ministry, K.D.S Ruwanchandra, to commence this new two-year Diploma programme, which is planned to give the coaches for their activity exams. These coaches have to pass the cut-off exams (activity) after a successful course, but now the Sports Ministry is introducing a new Diploma for them. More than 2,500 coaches from all over the country have already applied for this Diploma, which is conducted by the National Sports Science Institute.
The Sports Ministry, together with Provincial Council Sports Departments from Uva, Southern, Central, North, and Western are coordinating to organise this Diploma programme. Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has already made his views about the joint programmes of Education and Sports Ministries to get successful results. He had made arrangements to work together with National sports bodies and school sports associations to develop the sport. This diploma programme is aimed to help develop new elements for the coaches and will give successful results for the students. Most of the coaches lack proper practical knowledge and this new programme can give a better platform for that.
The National sports Science Institute has always given excellent practical knowledge for Physical Education teachers and this time, Sports Minister decided to get the services for the coaches attached to the Education Ministry from the Sports Science Institute.
