Former Richmond skipper Jagath’s funeral today

Former Richmond College cricket captain Jagath Perera passed away yesterday. Perera was an outstanding Richmondite cricketer who represented school cricket team in four consecutive years from 1976 to 1980.

He captained the side in 1980 and led the team at ‘battle of the lovers’ diamond jubilee big match in 1980.

Jagath was adjudged the Best Outstation Cricketer of the year at the Bata- Observer school cricket contest in 1979 and was the highest scorer from the outstation schools in that season. Later he played for BRC in first class cricket.

His funeral will be held today (16) at 2pm at Borella cemetery and his remains lie at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour, Borella. (DR)
