Chethaka Denuwan a fine all rounder

Third year all rounder Chethaka Denuwan Dinujaya Nilanduwa of St. Servatius College, Matara is a left hand bat and an off spinner. This season he participated in eight matches out of eleven and scored 712 runs with a century and three fifties with a top score of 116 runs against Richmond College. Also he claimed 32 wickets including a five wicket haul versus St. Sylvester’s College.

Last year he notched up 896 runs with two centuries and five half centuries and a top score of 119 against St. Aloysius College. He captured 52 wickets with a Best Analysis of 8 for 17 with four five wickets hauls. In his first year for his Alma Mater in 2017/18 he collected 512 runs and 19 scalps. During his career at St. Servatius he scored 2120 runs and claimed 103 wickets in the first eleven team.

He joined his present school in his second year in the under 17 and scored 382 runs and bagged 20 wickets and in the same year St. Servatius clinched under 17 championship and his coaches were Priyantha Abeysekera, T. D. Munasinghe, Ravindra Palliyaguru and presently Hiran Gunawardene. It was Ruchira Palliyaguru who encouraged him to join St. Servatius College and when playing for his previous school Royal National, Moneragala in 2016 In his first year in under 17 he scored 412 runs and claimed 38 wickets. He played for Uva Province in the Inter Provincial Tournament and in 2017 he captained the team and led in 2018 also. In 2019 he represented the Galle Team in the Super Tournament. His coaches were Chaminda Kodikara and Suranga Wijenayake.

He commenced his cricket career in the under 13 in 2013 in his former school under Nilantha Prasad and he was selected for his performances in the School Inter House Hard Ball Cricket Tournament. Then in his second year MonEragala Royal lost to Rajasinghe Vidyalaya, Hanwella and Chethaka scored 232 runs and bagged 68 wickets and won the Best All Rounder’s Award

In the following year playing in the under 15 he scored 338 runs and claimed 17 wickets and played in the Prima Cup for the district and Inter Provincial Teams. During this period his coaches were Kasun Maduranga Rajaratna Bandara and Neil Kamal. His final appearance for Royal College was for the under 17 tournament in 2016 and scored 412 runs and claimed 38 wickets. He had a word of praise for his Principals of both schools, the Prefects of Games and the Masters in Charge of Cricket, the teachers, old boys and his parents for helping him immensely to come up the ladder.
