The Captain of the first eleven cricket team 2019/20, a fifth year player and a coloursman and a fine all rounder Joseph Manuelge Chamod Sandaru bid adieu to his Alma Mater in grand style after an unblemished cricket career at Piliyandala Central College. Chamod who bats right hand and bowls off spin is a middle order dependable batsman with an array of strokes and also a fine fielder with a good arm at any position. His deputy was Ruchira Adhikari.

Chamod Sandaru

He was selected to the first eleven cricket team in the 2015/16 cricket season as an under 15 player and coach was former Cambrain Eranga Gunaratne. He was an unanimous choice for the first eleven team because of his under 13 and under 15 performances. In his first season it self he scored 425 runs by full filling the expectations of his coach and his first captain was Harshana Gomes and followed by Gimhana Danushka, Heshan Madushanka, Malshan Gunathilake. In his second year he was in fine form and scored 967 runs with three centuries and also scored 223 runs against Madampa Central.

Again in 2017/18 he scored 703 runs with two centuries and his best year was in 2018/2019 when he passed the magical 1000 runs with five centuries and collected 1251 runs and he ended up his career this season with 671 runs. During his five year period he has scored 4017 runs with 9 centuries and several half centuries and has claimed many wickets with his occasional off spin bowling. All these years Centralians produced strong teams and his coach advised him to concentrate only on batting. Perhaps he is one of the best all rounders produced by Piliyandala Central during the recent past.

Playing in five Big matches and five Limited Over matches against their arch rivals Taxila Central he scored unbeaten 100 runs and 89 not out and the Limited Over Match in 2017/18 and in 2018/19 he was unbeaten on 101 runs and unbeaten in Limited Over game with 61 runs. He played in five Big Matches and five Limited Over Games and carried away several awards from time to time. He is the one and only Centralian to achieve this rare feat.

He represented the District and the Province for three successive years and for the Kandy Team in the Inter Provincial Tournament and in Club Level represented Nondescripts Cricket Club in the three day tournament of under 23.

He commenced his cricket career at Piliyandala Town Club Cricket Academy under former Centralian Sriyan Chaminda At the age of 11 he joined the Academy and it was his parents who encouraged him.

He played for the under 13 as an all rounder for three years and captained the team and in 2015 and 2016 he played for the under 15 team and was the captain in his final year. He played for the Prima Cup for the District and the Province and he was in the Sri Lanka Schools under 15 Development Squad and played against visiting under 15 team of England in three one dayers. He captained his school in all four formats i.e. under 13 , 15, 17 and 19 which is a rare feat.
