Weerasinghe brothers help Maliyadeva to 331/6

Brothers Gayana and Matheesha Weerasinghe

The Weersinghe brothers Matheesha and Gayana helped to Maliyadeva College Kurunegala to an impressive first day total of 331-6 in their 37th ‘Battle of the Rocks’ annual cricket encounter against St Anne’s College played at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala yesterday.

St. Anne’s who won the toss elected to field first and saw Maliyadeva pile up the massive total with which is their highest in the big match history. Opener Matheesha Weerasinghe scored 113 off 234 balls with 13 fours and his younger brother Gayana Weerasinghe (15 years old) made 58 off 98 balls with 9 fours in an opening stand of 56. Two Weerasinghe brothers represented the

school for the first time in a big match. The match will be continued today on day two.
