Unbeaten Kandy SC retain Dialog ‘A’ division league title

Defending champions Kandy Sports Club record a significant win over Havelock Sports Club by 33 points (four goals and a try) to 12 points (a goal and a try) to record their 13th consecutive win of the season at Nittawela yesterday and virtually crowned themselves Dialog ‘A’ division rugby league champions for another year.

Kandy SC was in total control of the match the initial whistle. The Havies had the better start to the game, but even after holding the ball for lengthy periods of time and controlling the territory, they found themselves 12-nil down at half-time.

Kandy came back strongly in the second half and took firm control, easing through the gears as if running a new car; they outclassed the Havies tackling well. Kandy pulled away through their own skill rather than their opponents’ deficiencies, but it was hard not to feel for a team that included front-line professionals. At the end it was all about success for the table leaders, who have already won the league, as they have only one more game, next Sunday against Police SC.

Referee: Ishanka Abeyakoon.
