Sisters Senulya and Binudi singles and doubles champs

Sisters Senulya and Binudi Wijayawardane from Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo displayed some superb skills to emerge singles and doubles champions of the ongoing ATF Junior circuit girls under 14 First Week tournament at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts yesterday.

Singles champion sixth seed Senulya maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament and created a major upset when she beat fourth seed Nishka Eshwary Vivekanandan in a three-setter final 5/7, 6/1, 6/2. Senulya faced an early setback going down to her opponent in the closely contested first set, but bounced back to win the following two sets with ease, sealing a comfortable victory.

Earlier Senulya defeated third seed Inuki Jayaweera in the semis 6/2, 3/6, 6/1. Senulya had the better of another seasoned player Oneli Samarawickrama in the quarters 7/6(1), 6/2.

Top seed Saneshi Willoraarachchi secured the U-14 singles third place beating Inuki Jayaweera 2/4, 4/1, 4/1.

Senulya partnered by her sister Binudi Wijayawardane won the girls doubles crown defeating Inuki Jayaweera and Saneshi Willoraarachchi in a thrilling final battle 6/3, 6/7(6), 10/7. It was an exciting doubles final from the beginning as both pairs fought point-to-point. But the two sisters proved their supremacy in style and walked away with the doubles title.

Senulya and Binudi edged out Vinethya Dharmaratne and Dulkini Nesansa Ranasinghe 2/6, 6/3, 10/7 in the doubles semis and won the quarterfinal against Oneli Samarawickrama and Nishka Eshwary Vivekanandan 6/4, 7/5.
