The Ceylonese Rugby and Football club which scored a resounding 30-17 win over arch rivals Havelock Sports Club last week get a golden opportunity of notching up another victory when they confront wooden spoonists Sri Lanka Air Force in their Dialog ‘A’ Division League rugby match at Longden Place today.
The Red Shirts are lying second in the points table with 38 points from nine games and a win over the lowly placed Airmen should enable them to remain in that position for another week.
CR's three quarters gave a dazzling display of open rugby last week and a repeat performance is expected from them today. The halves combination of Harith Bandara and Chanaka Chandimal have hit it off smoothly with centres strongly built Dinuk Amarasinghe and Kevin Dixon tearing apart the opponents defence with their powerful runs but the biggest threat for the Airmen will be posed by wingers Janidu Dilshan and Reza Refaideen with their daring runs down the flanks with Dilshan having crossed the opponents goal line in virtually every match. Last year's Wesley skipper Murshid Doray too had a good game last week. Manning the last line of defence he often joined the line to form the overlap and also relieved pressure with his safe collections and booming kicks to touch.
The Airmen led by fly half Gayantha Iddamalgoda have failed to fly high despite having some talented players like Sashika Fernando, Faris Ali Kaushan Manupriya Rukshan Madushanka and Fijian James Tuteovuya but should come up with a much better performance today if they hope to contain the Red Shirts
