The 31st Mahaweli Games will be conducted at the Bisopura grounds, Medirigiriya today and tomorrow. athletes from 10 Mahaweli Zones will be vying for honours at the games.
President Maithripala Sirisena will be the chief Guest at the closing ceremony tomorrow and will give away the awards.
The volleyball finals and athletic events will take place today in addition to handball exhibition game. On Sunday in addition to Athletic events, the netball finals, men's and women's cycle races and the tug of war will be conducted.
Of the 30 times the games was held Walawa Zone has won the President's trophy on nine occasions. ‘H’ zone have won it 8 times ‘C’ zone has emerged victories on 7 occasions. Walawa Zone are defending champions. So far of the events concluded H’ zone are leading followed by ‘E’ zone and ‘C’ zone.
