India romp to 7-wicket win over Kuwait in 23-over match

Arjun Azad finished the game in style with a maximum and remained unbeaten for 60 runs as India U19 beat Kuwait U17 by 7 wickets to register their first win in the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2019 at the CCC grounds yesterday. He was named Man of the Match.

Arjun faced 58 balls hitting five boundaries and two sixes as he put India on course for a comfortable win. Arjun Azad and Nehal Wadhera kept the tempo going for India U19 after the departure of Suved Parkar, who scored 14 runs when he was dismissed by Akash Singh. Faez Ahmed and Muhammad Amir scalped two quick wickets when India were right runs away from victory.

A delay in the start of the India-Kuwait game was followed by intermittent drizzle causing further delays. After a lengthy rain disruption, the covers were taken off when play started around 2.15 p.m. with the match reduced to 23 overs per side. India won the toss against Kuwait and opted to field first.

Kuwait U19 were off to a brisk start being 42/0 at the end of 13 overs. A half-century partnership (54) at the top of the order between Meet Bhavsar (28) and Gokul Sunil Kumar (25) propelled Kuwait to 110/7 at the end of their 23 overs.

They lost too many wickets as Akash Singh and Purnank Tyagi picked up three wickets apiece. India were sharp on the field and pulled off some good catches.

Sri Lanka Under 19 will meet Nepal Under 19 in their first round match of tournament at R. Premadasa International Cricket stadium today.
