SSC Open Badminton Championships from September 13 to 22

Total prize money of five hundred thousand rupees will be offered for the SSC All Island Open Badminton championships which will be held from September13 to 22 at the SSC Badminton Complex and Mercantile Badminton Association Indoor courts , Colombo 7

.According to the Secretary of the SSC Badminton Gamini Jayasuriya this tournament

once again paved the way for Badminton players to build up their talents and keen tussles can be expected in all events . This time record number of entries( over 1500 )are expected for this major tournament which is conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton according to BWF rules adopted by SLB.

SSC open tournament is by far the biggest and most popular event in Sri Lanka’s Badminton calendar . The shuttlers are expected to take part in 39 events covering all age groups from under 11 to over 70 . In addition the key events of men’s and women’s open singles and doubles , mixed doubles boys and girls under 19, 17, 15 singles and doubles and under 13, 11 men and women veterans over 40 singles and doubles , men and women masters over 50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 singles and doubles will be conducted in this nine day tournament. Last year Rantushka Sasindu and Dilmi Dias emerged open men’s and women’s singles champions .

Apart from the total prize money of rupees five lakhs trophies and certificates will be awarded to the winners and runners up in each category.

Entry forms are available on SLB website (www.srilankabadminton.lk) or at the SSC office and SLB Headquarters at Maitland Place . Entries will be accepted at SSC office until 4.30pm on 26th August (Monday)
