The decision by SLC Management to give give a small pension cum health benefit expense allowance to past veteran cricketers is very commendable and very much appreciated.
These pioneers of Sri Lanka cricket, on whose shoulders Sri Lanka Cricket grew, did not receive any benefits in their day. Even most of the cricketing expenses incurring for national matches were borne at personal cost. Also it’s my hope that some past cricketers who did not receive a fitting farewell on the field at time of retirement are given a fitting farewell specially organized for them.
If these deserving retired Sri Lanka Cricketers could be made use of to go to leading schools with past video clips etc to show what they did for Sri Lanka cricket and spread knowledge about the hard way they achieved success in cricket. What is important for success in cricket is by making your mind work that way and practice achieving success thro your skills. I’m glad Sri Lanka team did well against New Zealand in the first test.
This success came due to their skillful and confident performance and knowing what to do with the opponents. When selectors select players for the matches, they select players who can perform due to their skillful ability. This factor is much more important for the formula of winning matches than the abilities of the head coach in itself.
I hope that Sri Lanka cricket will grow from strength to strength to bring prestige to the nation.
