Kandy District boys’ team emerged champions of the under-16 Invitational Basketball Championship in Maldives by beating Maris Stella College, Negambo in a closely fought final 52-46.
The tournament was held in Male and two Sri Lankan teams entered the boys’ finals. Maris Stella maintained a superb unbeaten record and defeated Kandy District team in the first round. But Kandy played a superb game in the final to seal their victory. Inosh Sanjaya of Maris Stella College was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Kandy girls’ team clinched the U-16 title beating Kalafanu team, Maldives 67-56 in the final.
