Sri Lanka beat Vietnam 2-1

Sri Lanka beat Vietnam 2-1 in the ongoing Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Pre-qualify tournament continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts yesterday.

Sri Lanka did not perform well in the first singles match as Thehan Wijemanne went down to his Vietnam opponent Nhat Quang Nguyen 6-7(6), 3-6. But the host country won the second singles when Chathurya Nilaweera defeated Vinh Hien Truong after a close fight 7-6(2), 6-4.

Then Lankan pair Dhilvan Herath and Chathurya Nilaweera routed their opponents Duong Dai Cao and Vinh Hien Truong in easy straight sets 6/1, 6/1 in the doubles.

Meanwhile third seed Lebanon created a major upset when they toppled top seed Pacific Oceania 2-1 at the SLTA courts. Singapore made a clean sweep of Turkmenistan 3-0 and Syria beat Malaysia 2-1. Saudi Arabia had the better of Bahrain 3-0 and Lebanon routed Singapore 2-1. Jordan beat Vietnam 2-0 and Turkmenistan defeated Bangladesh 3-0 while Kyrgyzstan overcame Qatar 2-1 in the other ties worked off yesterday.

Sri Lanka will take on third seed Lebanon at the SLTA courts in the morning today.
