Nimsath Warnakulasuriya, an eight grader of Wesley College became the best player in the under 12 category at the 8 a side Football Tournament conducted by the Barcelona Football Academy which was held at the Race Course Grounds, Colombo recently.
The Wesley College U-12 team also became the unbeaten champions at the tournament while Nimsath was awarded with the best player award. Wesley U-12 also beat the Kingswood College, Kandy U-12 team playing for the Kenneth de Lanarolle Shield at the Bogambara grounds in Kandy recently.
Wesley juniors beat Hameed Al-Husseinie College ‘A’ by 1-0. Wesley went on to record a win against Kelaniya Football Academy by 1-0. They reached the semi-final stage to meet hosts Barcelona Football Academy ‘A’ and record a 1-0 win. At the finals, Wesley U-12 met Barcelona Football Academy ‘B’ and defeated them becoming the unbeaten champions of the tournament.
Nimsath Warnakulasuriya was selected as the Best Player of the Tournament and D. Abishek was awarded as the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Wesley juniors were led and coached by Mr. Danesh Kumar.
