Indian first-class sides Tripura and Madhya Pradesh have both been bowled out for just 35 in the current round of Ranji Trophy matches.
Having won the toss and opted to bat against Rajasthan, Tripura were left reeling on 22/6, in addition to losing their captain Smit Patel to an enforced retirement through injury. With six of the batting line-up recording ducks, an innings high-score of 11 from Neelambuj Vats was able to at least help Tripura into the thirties.
It was Tripura’s worst showing in first-class cricket, eclipsing their 42 all out against Bengal in 1996. Rajasthan appear to have a habit of upsetting Ranji trophy batsmen – the lowest first-class score in the competition’s history came against them, with Hyderabad amassing a total of 21 in 2010. Aniket Choudhary was the main cause of havoc, taking 5/11 from his seven overs, before top-scoring for Rajasthan with 30 to help them to 218 in their first innings.
Tripura managed 106 in their second stay at the crease, a worthy improvement from their first go, but not enough to halt an innings defeat.
In the match between Madhya Pradesh and Andhra, 35 was the unlucky number once more. Chasing a target of 343, Madhya Pradesh looked uncomfortable but not too shaky at 35/3. What followed was quite extraordinary, as the batting line-up crumbled, losing the rest of the available wickets for the loss of no runs. Only four batsmen managed to add any runs to their name, Yash Dubey top-scorer with 16 runs.
Just two bowlers were needed for Andhra, with KV Sasikanth and Paidikalva Vijaykumar sharing nine wickets between them – Sasikanth finished with extraordinary figures of 6/18 from his eight overs. Andhra triumphed by a monumental 307 runs. - ICC
