‘Smash in Ruhuna’ All Island Age Group Badminton tournament will be held from March 1 to 4 at Indoor Stadium Kotawila, Matara. This will be the second successive year this tournament is conducted and the entries will be closed on February 18.
Tournament organizer Gutthila Edirisuriya said this tournament is very popular especially among the southern badminton players and they can get good experience with playing more talented ranking players during this tournament. “Last year we originally planed for a four-day tournament but due to more entries finally we had to extend one date.”
“We wanted to promote Badminton in Southern area and to focus on conducting this type of tournaments. Especially we are looking to get sponsors and also hope to get assistance from the Sri Lanka Badminton Association and Southern Provincial Council Sports Ministry,” said Chef Organiser Gutthila Edirisuriya who also a qualified badminton umpire. All qualified badminton referees and umpires are officiating the tournament and once again International referee Samantha Nawaratna will give her service as chief match referee to this tournament.
