SLC CA confident ICC will not suspend Lanka

The Competent Authority of Sri Lanka Cricket Chulananda Perera assured that the ICC will not suspend Sri Lanka although the scheduled date to hold elections has been postponed from February 7 to 21.

“The Ministry had discussions with the ICC last week and it was confirmed that the ICC committee meeting is due to be held on 28 February and the SLC elections should be held before that date and the names of the elected officials be submitted as early as possible,” said Perera at a press conference held at the Ministry of Sports yesterday.

“The ICC giving a statement of this nature assures that Sri Lanka will not be suspended or banned by the world governing body,” he said.

Speaking further Perera stated that some sections of the media were spreading the news that with the election postponement Sri Lanka is liable to be suspended by the ICC. “I totally disagree with these false statements made by certain parties”, he said.
