Sasindu and Dilmi top shuttlers at SSC Open

Ranthushka Sasindu and Dilmi Dias emerged open men’s and women’s singles champions at the SSC Open Badminton championships which concluded at the SSC Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Former Nalandian Sasindu beat 15-year-old Peterite Viren Nettasinghe in the men’s singles final 21/12, 17/21, 21/18

Dilmi from Our Lady of Victory Moratuwa defeated bottom seed Hasara Wijeratna 21/10, 21/18 to win the women’s single title.

Achini Ratnasiri and Upuli Weerasinghe won the women’s double title beating Chamya Nandasiri and Yasmitha Wedamulla 21/6, 21/6, and Hasitha Chanaka and R.S Kasun took the men’s doubles title beating Oshada Madusanka and Lahiru Weerasinghe 21/19, 22/20. The mixed doubles final was won by Maduka Dulanjana and Dilmi Dias who defeated Kasun Amarasena and Nayanatara Teshani 21/19, 21/11.

Over 1800 shuttlers participated in the tournament during nine days of competition. Tommy Ellawala, president of SSC was the chief guest along with Nishantha Jayasinghe, president of the Sri Lanka Badminton Management Committee.

Girls under 19 singles: Dilmi Dias bt Anurangi Masakorala 21/7, 21/13

Boys under 17 singles: Dumindu Abeywickrama bt Savinka Weerasekara 18/21, 21/8, 21/8

Girls under 17 singles: Panchali Adhikari bt Chamudi Abeywickrama 22/20, 21/12

Boys under 15 singles: Vidush Sumanadasa bt Sanjana Devasurendra 21/17, 21/16

Girls under15 singles: Thevini Wijesooriya bt Senuji Umagiliyage 21/9,17/21, 21/8
