Lanka ‘A’ go one-up against Ireland ‘A’

Sri Lanka ‘A’ registered a comfortable ten-wicket win over Ireland ‘A’ on the third day of their first 4-day unofficial test concluded at the SSC grounds yesterday to go one-up in the two-match series.

Ireland ‘A’ who resumed at their overnight second innings score of 182-9 added another 14 runs to their total to be all out for 196 the final wicket was claimed by skipper Ashan Priyanjan.

The chief destroyer of the Ireland ‘A’ batting was left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya who took five wickets in the second innings for match figures of 9 for 119.

Left to chase a moderate target of 42 the Lanka ‘A’ openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando had no difficulty in achieving it requiring 6.5 overs.

The second unofficial test commences on January 13 at Hambantota.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ 308 and 44-0 in 6.5 overs (Pathum Nissanka 26 n.o., Avishka Fernando 16 n.o.)
