Nizam Jamaldeen, Superindent of Police, and one time top class referee was re-elected as the president of the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society’s at the 62nd AGM which took place on Saturday at the OPA hall. This is Jamaldeen’s fourth consecutive term as president and the sixth time he has been elected to the post.
Jamaldeen, a former Police rugby captain also played for CR & FC, Colombo Clubs and Sri Lanka and was a top rugby referee during his days.
While playing for Police SC he established a record by scoring 248 points in a season. He was Sri Lanka’s most dependable place kicker. Jamal as he is popularly was a fine fly half and a goal kicker. As a fly half in a glittering rugby career that spanned almost two decades he holds the rare feat of representing the country at five Rugby Asiads, four Dubai 7s, three Hong Kong 7s, a World Cup 7s in Italy and a few more Sevens tournaments in Singapore, Malaysia and China. He refereed for many years and did a good job with the whistle. He has refereed in overseas tournaments too.
