CR face a fierce challenge from Army

The hapless CR & FC outfit face a fierce challenge from the fast improving Army Sports Club in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter-club league rugby second round match at CR & FC Grounds in Longden Place, Colombo today starting at 4.00 pm.

This year’s CR side is going through a miserable season where they have lost their last three matches in a row after a long time losing to Police Sports club 18-21, CH and FC 10-33 and Havelock SC by 26-31 last week at Havelock Park.

CR & FC under the coaching of former Sri Lanka national under 18 seven a side coach M.J.M.Mushtaq displayed superb running rugby through their three quarter line against Havies in their last game. Former Isipathana College captain cum present CR & FC number eight and skipper Omalka Gunaratne who is an excellent player in the loose along with former Royal College Colombo number eight cum CR & FC hooker Supun Warnakulasooriya a tremendous exponent of the rolling maul will be the players to watch from the red shirt camp.

Army Sports Club on the other hand will be going into this match brimming with confidence after their morale boosting win against the Kandy Sports club side two weeks back in Nittawela and once again they pulled off a shock 27 25 victory over formidable Navy sports Club last week at Welisara through a last minute penalty slotted in by their full back Gayan Salinda. who will be their key figure in this match as well.

CH-Police clash should be a thriller

CH and FC which recorded a close 29-22 win over a fighting Air Force Sports Club last week at Ratmalana, will go all out to pull off another victory by overcoming formidable Police Sports Club in their Dialog ‘A’ Division League rugby second round match at Police grounds in Police Park today. Kick ofF will be at 4.00 p m.

Police Sports Club forwards along with their speedy three quarters gave a superb performance against Kandy Sports Club at Police grounds in Colombo last week going down fighting 27-20. but they will have to come up with a much better performance if they hope to overcome the favourite CH outfit in their own den at Police Park.

The lads from Maitland Crescent in their first round game beat the Cops Hence another terrific tussle for supremacy can be expected today and it won't be a surprise if CH and FC emerge victorious against all odds.
