Champs Kandy SC wallop Airmen 53/22

Kandy SC launched their Dialog ‘A’ division league title preparations in style by walloping hapless Air Force SC 53-22 at Nittawela yesterday. The winning team scored 8 tries out which 6 were converted. Air Force’s points came from 4 tries and a conversion.

Kandy SC set an early pace and Air Force SC struggled to settle down and were over powered in every move. The Airmen were unable to cope with Kandy’s increasing physical intensity. Despite their heroic defensive efforts, the Airmen remained pinned on the back foot, unable to handle Kandy’s greater speed and cohesion around the critical breakdown area.

Gaps began to appear in midfield, which helped the winners in a big way and at the half-time whistle Kandy led 38-5 through six tries.

In the second half Airmen were all over the place, and tried their best to do well, but failed due to the superb rugby dished out by the home side. They however managed to score 17 points.

Kandy gained their first dominance at forward play, pushing the Airmen off the ball on numerous occasions.

They played as a team, and showed that they can beat any club. Thanks to Kandy’s superior pack, they dictated proceedings from the kick off.

For Kandy SC the tries came from Vishvamihra Jayasinghe and A. Wilawira two each, and one each by Y. Ali, B. Udangamuwa, T. Wijesinghe and Nigel Ratwatte. Conversions by Thilina Wijesinghe (6).

For Air Force SC the tries were scored by P. Ratnayake two tries, and one each from C. Praveen and N. Perera. Conversions by G. Iddamalgoda.
